LAND - Soil, Solidarity & Spirituality
April 10th - 13th, 2025 | Johannesburg
Join us for a weekend of community building among activists and fellow peace and justice practitioners as we examine together our relationship to the land, not as "property" or a place of inhabitation, but as an integral part of ecological existence which challenges the exploitation, profitability and privatisation of soil.

IZIKO LAMAQABANE - LOCAL SOLIDARITY PILGRIMAGE
The discourse of land in South Africa has been largely articulated under the legal and constitutional rubric that prioritizes the propertization of land, even though it argues that "property is not limited to land." Approaching land through the codification process limits how people relate to, or interact with the land. In what ways might we think about land beyond constitutional and legal grammar?
What is the significance of the soil as an essential embryo, not only for re-production of crops but that which materializes and forms our being? How might we act in solidarity to the land, not to exploit and cause further harm, but to act justly?
What spiritual modes of solidarity might we practice in fostering justice and peace with the land?
How might we think about theological practices in our relation to land and space?
Iziko Lamaqabane would like to invite all those interested in exploring these questions meaningfully, to seek alternative learning and conversation on the question of land, not just as "property" or a place of inhabitation, but as an integral part of ecological existence that negates the exploitation, profitability and privatization.
