About
The global economic and development contexts require a rigorous reflection on how the notion of economic development has been, still is, inextricably bound with the long histories of colonial-imperialism and racial extractive economies of domination. As such, economic institutions, as well as economic policy developments at the scale of geopolitical and bilateral relations still lingers on the logic of global coloniality as economic power. What would it mean, therefore, to disentangle by way of rethinking, and decentering from the hegemonic logic of coloniality of power embedded in global economic development, especially emerging economies? Fundamental for “Marxism the notion that the world is unethical is due to its submission by relations to capital,” that is, exploitation and the alienation of the human turned into surplus value (profit). This online curriculum seeks to create a critical framework to rethink current global economic models and explore otherwise possibilities, or alternative, economic development rooted in the practices of care, solidarity, and egalitarianism. The online curriculum predicated on essentializing economies developed through the practices of care, solidarity, and egalitarianism requires specific pedagogical and critical methods of study and research. One of the concomitant methods of eruditive critical learning is Freirean concept of "pedagogy of the oppressed,” emphasizing two critical elements: conscientization, defined as the process of coming into critical awareness of the social, political and economic contradictions of reality that leads to humanization. The other is praxis, referring to the attempt to keep theory and practice in a balanced dialect so that one acts reflectively and thinks for action. These two essential elements will assist in framing the online discursive and dissident critical reflections, allowing participants to bring their thoughts to shape and in turn be shaped through dialogue.
